To help families plan for the future, the Twin Falls School District (TFSD) Board of Trustees has officially approved the academic calendars for the next two school years. This marks the first time in recent history that calendars have been finalized two years in advance.
Prioritizing Family Planning
The decision to approve a two-year cycle stems from a commitment to help TFSD families and staff better prepare for the future. By providing these dates early, the Board hopes to simplify household scheduling for vacations, childcare, and professional development.
A Collaborative Process
The approved calendars are based on recommendations from the District’s Calendar Committee. This group is comprised of a diverse set of voices, including:
Parent representatives from across the community
Teachers and staff members from every school building in the district
District administrators
"We recognize that our school schedule has a significant impact on the daily lives of our families and the overall community," said Dr. Brady Dickinson, Superintendent of Schools. "By moving to a two-year approval process, we are listening to our community’s desire for more lead time and predictability."
This year, the Calendar Committee utilized significant community input into its decision-making, including multiple drafts and surveys provided to the school community.
Key Calendar Highlights
Both the 2026-27 and 2027-28 calendars include several features designed to balance instructional time with meaningful breaks:
Mid-Week Start: A strategic Thursday start to help students ease back into the school routine
Full Thanksgiving Week: Families will enjoy a full week off in November
Two-Week Winter Break: School buildings will be closed for a full two-week (10-day) break for the holidays.
Post-Break Teacher Work Day: Following the two-week closure, the Monday following the winter holiday will be a designated teacher work day. Students will not attend school on this Monday, allowing staff to prepare for the second semester before students return to class on Tuesday.
Early Summer: School will be dismissed for the summer break prior to Memorial Day each year
