Bickel was incredibly fortunate to welcome local author Richard Aldama this week! Richard shared his stories with our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students, inspiring them through his journey as a children’s book author.

Motivated by his grandchildren and valuing the importance of being bilingual, Richard is passionate about making books available to children in both English and Spanish. Each of our students went home with two of his books in English and two in Spanish. Such a wonderful gift of stories and representation!

We are so grateful to Richard for his visit and to the many community members and businesses who have contributed to this campaign, putting books into the hands of every child. Special thanks to Phyllis Mascari and friends, Richard Aldama, Morgan Rizzo, Javier Serva from Ketchum Burrito, Mi Tierra, Heidi Adams, Lyah Babayan, and Sally Verdin for their generosity and commitment to our students.

A few spots have recently opened in our Dual Immersion kindergarten classroom, and we don’t want you to miss this opportunity!

The Dual Immersion program offers students the chance to become fluent in both English and Spanish while building strong academic skills and cultural understanding. It’s open to all students, and no prior Spanish experience is needed.

If you’re interested in having your incoming kindergarten student join the program, please contact our school secretary at 208-733-4116 as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

We’re excited to welcome new students into this unique and engaging learning environment!

📚✨ "Feet, why do I want you when I have wings to fly?" – Frida Kahlo (Mexican painter)

"At Bickel Dual Immersion Magnet School, we believe every child walks into our building already carrying the wings of potential, language, culture, and dreams. As we begin this school year together in a few weeks, let us be the wind beneath their wings — lifting them higher with encouragement, community, and love.

Thank you, families, for being our partners in this beautiful journey. ¡A volar alto, Gatos Monteses! 🐾💙" Jorge Pulleiro, Principal

👋 Say hola to Stephanie, a passionate educator with 13 years of experience (including 9 in Dual Immersion! ) who’s all about growing bilingual brains, curious minds , and a few vegetables along the way.

💬 Why do they love Dual Immersion:
“I absolutely love watching how quickly students’ bilingual brains grow. It’s incredible to see them absorb content and make connections in two languages. Learning a second language also helps them understand their native language on a deeper level, often in ways they wouldn’t otherwise experience! Dual immersion opens so many more doors for them in their future!”

🌱 Fun Fact:
“I love to garden! I don't really know what I'm doing, but I love taking care of plants and watching them grow to produce food that I can eat!”

📣 Favorite classroom catchphrase:
“This is why we can't have nice things.”

🌊 Dream Field Trip:
“If I could take my class anywhere in the world, I’d shrink down Magic School Bus style and dive deep into the ocean! I’ve always been fascinated by the water, and the ocean is full of incredible mysteries and lessons just waiting to be explored. There’s so much we can learn from life under the sea, science, ecosystems, and more! I can't think of a better way to experience it than with a little imagination and a lot of curiosity, just like Ms. Frizzle.”
